MANGAIA: GRANDFATHER OF THE PACIFIC
Mangaia is not a typical tropical island...many of its roads are rubble strewn, and evidence of its great age is everywhere in razor sharp, fossilised coral formations known as makatea. Scientists estimate the island is at least 18 million years old. But don't be put off, because visitors are rewarded with a unique experience which includes meeting some of the most friendly and welcoming people in the world.
